The course of true love never did run smooth.
Metaphorically speaking, our hearts are akin to a museum. A place where whatever we have ever loved is put on display for our soul to bear at some point. I imagine the paramount masterpiece often presented in each and every one of our museums would be a portrait where love is a landscape riddled with peaks and valleys; full with blessed pageantry and a kaleidoscope of spectacular confusion. These museums are scattered with emotional fragments that are assembled together with an abstract purpose. These exhibits are bound to fluctuate but the foundation of enlightenment is never altered. Our souls may construct their archives with diversity, but the work of art on prominent display is comprehensive to the infinite artifact of love.
Today I am going to touch on what I feel to be the six exhibits of true and unbound love are. Each and every one of us is a product of everyone we’ve ever loved. During this recent renaissance of my imagination, I am starting to visualize this thing called love with radiant precision. Love doesn’t carry any logistical tenacity. It is something that we will never fully understand but once you realize this it makes all the sense in the world. You start to appreciate that it isn’t supposed to be understood and you will allow yourself to fully harness the sensation of loving devotion for another soul. It was Pearl S. Buck who said, “Love cannot be forced, love cannot be coaxed and teased. It comes out of heaven, unasked and unsought.” This has never made more sense to me, than it does today. While I feel it to be true, there is still a daunting and daring adventure that comes in the form of true love. The following bullet points are how I see that the transformation of love will shake itself out.
- Exhibit 1: The Smitten Phase
- Exhibit 2: Courtship of Love
- Exhibit 3: Nesting of Love
- Exhibit 4: The Exposure of Disenchantment
- Exhibit 5: Reawakening True Love
- Exhibit 6: The Promised Land
I believe these six exhibits could be considered bona fide, but then again what do I know? This is only what my opinion of what love is. The exhibits are what I believe to be the pillars of persistent love. I am no saint of love. Though, I have warmed both hands by the fire of love and have loved enough to have a good idea as to what it takes to keep the sentience of warmth ablaze. In order to fully comprehend the message that I am going to try to deliver with all of my heart. I ask that you please open your heart and set your safety net aside.
The foremost exhibit of love starts with the idea that we become smitten by someone. Usually when two people realize that they share similar interests or are attracted to one another, they make subtle advances regarding the others attention. From here flirtatious behavior reigns supreme and the heart starts to flurry with nirvana. One could also call this the sniffing-butt stage, but in order to preserve intellect, I will leave that one behind us. This exhibit opens when a glance from her eyes captivates his confidence, from here he musters up the courage to ask her on a date. She says sure, his soul shudders and his coolness cultivates itself inherently. I believe this stage to be the least abrasive because the genesis of love is still very much metaphysical. The seedling of trust is sown into the soil and planted with a singular purpose. The attraction between two people brushes itself with determination and we become riveted by the art of love. From here we walk unwearyingly towards the next exhibit.
“A glance from her eyes captivates his confidence”
This is the exhibit when the courtship of love commences itself in the heart. The foundation of love is laid in this exhibit, brick by brick. The feeling of love is swathed in tenderness and ascertains itself as unconditional. Romantic feelings have already been floating around but they establish themselves here, front and center. Those once smitten feelings are supplanted with a sentiment of worship. We fall in love with the idea that this person will make all of our dreams come to fruition. We project our ambitions into this newfound feeling for someone and expect that everything, which failed in relationships of our past, is now going to be forgotten. Faith and trust are demonstrated in this exhibit, without any misdoubt. We become blinded by love and proceed to dive in; headfirst without holding any caution to the wind. The emotional highs portrayed in this exhibit are aesthetically abstract. Attraction and adoration are the essential works of art on parade in the halls of this exposition. The aforementioned seedling of trust turns into a tree and its roots embrace our soul. Two hands become one and hearts flutter with fascination as we gallivant with grace towards the next exhibit of nesting.
The nesting phase is perhaps the most nurtured of all exhibits. Its hallways are always impeccably clean and tidy; this is a delicate time in the life of the museum. Love is no longer painted in an abstract manner; instead it is highlighted with a more concrete pattern. We fall head over heels in love and decide to tackle life together. This is when we move-in together, possibly marry, proceeding to build a family and maybe a house. The possibilities of what we can do together are endless. Communication is the most consistent piece of art presented within this exhibit. Our hopes of eternal happiness are as handcuffed as they are helpless. This is when we grab our security blanket and cuddle up on the couch, comfort wraps itself around us and happiness is genuine. Nothing except ourselves stands in the way of true bliss. The tree of trust permeates amidst two souls; yet it starts to shake with restlessness as the wrangling winds start to soar. We tread with apprehension into the next exhibit known as the exposure of disenchantment.
“Our hopes of eternal happiness are as handcuffed as they are helpless”
This phase is the most abrasive and abstract of all the exhibits. The artwork is plagued with vile and putrid pieces that are painted with doubt. This is when all of the failed relationships from our past are projected onto our partner and trust veers into a vacuum. The love that was once so liberating shifts itself into a suffocating feeling. Love becomes so complacent that we begin to question everything that we ever loved about this person. This is when true love breaks down and most marriages are broken into pieces. Communication is fleeting because most conversations end in an argument. The art of love is exposed with tones of jealousy, anger, and spite. One may become emotionally detached and the other starts seeking some sort of spiritual growth. The cause of this cautious feeling of love is one that will be up for debate from here until eternity. I believe that the burdens from all failed relationships of the past bubble up to the surface. The inability to truly seek the answers as to why they failed; is why we become judgmental of the love we seek in return. The connection that was once unconditional is now seeking spiritual growth in order to prevent our hopes and dreams from staying grounded. The tree of trust is now uprooted and has gone dormant. Most people nowadays take the high road from here and just walk away from true love. But you know what they say; for better or worse, ‘til death do us part. Sometimes you have to man up and fix the broken things strewn about the museum, especially the foundation. Our penchant to turn to the power of prayer takes precedence and we look to God with questions we don’t know the answers to. We mosey on down the hall, as separate individuals looking lost but we arrive at the next exhibit, with our burdens in hand and our hearts on a sleeve.
The exhibit of reawakening true love is the most splendid and beautiful phase of the entire museum. The art of love is scattered with an effervescent and nourishing palate. This is when we start to understand that love is something that doesn’t interpret ownership. This is when we start loving our individual self again without any sort of egotistical etiquette. In doing this, we fall in love with one another again with more value than ever before. Communication becomes stronger because we are honest and happy with ourselves. We start to formally heal from everything that hurt us in our past by being open and upfront about it. Our hopes and dreams become blessed with buoyancy again. The spiritual growth of love is fed by the word of God and the power of prayer proves itself as constant. The tree of trust is replanted with a testimony of truth. A testimony that we will love ourselves as much as we love one another through the spirit of God. As the eternal bond of love is reconstructing itself, two hands become one, with more strength than ever. Together again, we stroll with leisure towards the ceremonious exhibit of the promised land of true love.
“Reawakening true love is the most splendid and beautiful phase”
This exhibit is where the masterpiece is displayed as an affixed portrait laden with peace. It is the one tried and true exhibit that never deviates from the clarity of its message. This exhibit sets the benchmark of what true love really is. It is inspirational to all that surround our kids, our in-laws, our parents, and us. This is when true love sets the world on fire and the genuine spirit of love becomes the standard for all to witness. Two are fully one and the world transforms around them. The spirit of love is now one with the tree of trust and it blossoms with more beauty than ever, as its roots are now implanted for eternity. The foundation of love from here can no longer be cracked. All of our hopes and dreams are now becoming true. Our emotional, spiritual, and physical needs are met and are definitively one in the same. This is when we fully understand what love without ownership truly means. It is in the wisdom of heartbreak and true love that we understand that love carries no boundaries. There is no longer a disbelief in love and through a sense of relief we find solace in the lessons that love has so confusingly taught us. Love has finally been branded by beauty and brawn. Love has never been more alive than it is in this exhibit. Everything we ever want will grow with ease and love is no longer bound by circumstance.
